The Federal Reserve's latest Beige Book report reveals that U.S. businesses are facing rising costs due to tariffs, leading many to pass these expenses onto consumers through higher prices. Uncertainty over international trade policy is described as "pervasive," with firms across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, retail, construction, and shipping, reporting significant cost increases. While some industries, like auto sales, saw a short-term boost as consumers rushed to buy before tariffs took effect, overall demand remains weak in many areas, squeezing profit margins. Homebuilders anticipate higher construction costs, and ports are experiencing unexpected tariff-related fees, further straining operations. Are Consumers Around the World Losing Interest in U.S. Brands?

A recent Morning Consult report indicates that anti-American sentiment may be discouraging global consumers from buying U.S. brands, particularly following President Donald Trump's policies and rhetoric. In Canada, consumers are increasingly choosing to "Buy Canadian" in protest. Similarly, in France, anger over Trump's trade tariffs, diversity stances, and his handling of Ukraine has led to boycotts of U.S. products. Data from Axios shows that out of 16 major U.S. brands surveyed between January and March 2025, 12 experienced a drop in favorability, with FedEx, Chevron, and Warner Bros. Discovery seeing declines of over 33%. However, not all brands were affected—Meta, McDonald's, OpenAI, and Apple actually saw improved sentiment.
